From my perspective anything that helps to combat fake news is a good thing, especially when the broadcast or story is a conscious effort by 'publishers' to mislead. Facebook has taken another significant step in the fight by testing a new 'i' button that when clicked will show users "information from the publisher’s Wikipedia page, a link to follow that publisher’s Facebook Page, and other links that might be related."
By providing more information and context for Facebook 'news' posts, it is hoped we can avoid being fooled by falsehood.
Is it Instabook or Facegram? The Facebook|Instagram sisterhood is becoming so intimate it's hard to know where to place this story. TechCrunch remarked on
to syndicate your Instagram Stories to Facebook Stories", which was subsequently confirmed by Facebook. Josh Constine supposes: "The feature should drastically cut down on the annoyance of manually syndicating your Stories, which takes both extra time and can lead to reduced image quality as posts are saved and re-uploaded elsewhere. " It's only Instagram-to-Facebook at the moment. But reciprocal privileges can't be far behind.
Social Media Examiner reports
that "Instagram is testing the ability for brands and retailers to sell products directly on the platform with deeper Shopify integration called Shopping on Instagram. This program offers Shopify’s over 500,000 merchants the opportunity to sell goods on Instagram through an experimental tagging system." Do we get to vote on this?
Speaking of voting . . . Instagram introduced
"an interactive poll sticker in Instagram Stories that lets you ask a question and see results from your friends and followers as they vote." Will it become a tool to heighten political and social debate . . . or as Instagram says a way to plan tomorrow's outfit?
Need your regular fix of artist Jeff Koons? You're in luck. Snapchat announced
it is launching a new augmented reality art platform featuring pop artist Jeff Koons. "It will allow art to be pinned to specific locations in augmented reality so users can see it when they hold up their phones in the right spot. Snapchat will solicit sign-ups from artists who want their art added to the platform." Take a look at art.snapchat.com
